William McClelland’s recording of choral works with William Appling Singers & Orchestras was released in 2003. The album includes a variety of choral works including two powerful choral ballds, The Ballad of Don and Dan, with text by the renowned American author Ian Frazier, and the title selection, a setting of poet Sidney Lanier’s remarkable narrative poem. Other works include Five Sonnets for Men’s Voices, with poems by Edna St. Vincent Millay, John Berryman, Conrad Aiken, E. E. Cummings, and Richard Wilbur; a hymn entitled Collect Pond to a text by McClelland’s brother Tim which celebrates the joys of removing plastic bags from trees; works for chorus and piano to poems by Elizabeth Bishop and Mary Oliver; and several others including a cappella works and a work for chorus and woodwind quintet.
